Group Chess Lessons by Chess Max Academy
Chess Max Academy offers group chess lessons for kids from complete beginners who are still in the process of learning the chess moves to Master level students, who are vying to become National Scholastic champions. Our group lessons range are offered both online via the Zoom platform where we use our proprietary online chess school software on our website to our in-person group lessons where kids can learn to play chess better in the comfort of three of our beautiful locations: two in NYC on Upper West Side and Upper East Side, and one in Greenwich, CT.
All our group chess classes for kids are taught by our master level coaches who are using the curriculum designed specifically for Chess Max Academy by the school’s founder, Grandmaster and former World Chess Champion, Max Dlugy. The classes follow an interactive program, where the coaches engage students to compete in solving problems, play out positions to improve their practical chess skills as well as learning the building blocks necessary to compete in chess tournaments.
When kids learn to play chess at Chess Max Academy, they are given a checklist for each of the 7 levels of skill that we have established, which they have to master to take the next level of classes. This is a good methodology, which makes it easier for parents and students to do some independent study on their own to complete the checklist faster, if they so choose.
In-person chess lessons for young kids are usually more effective, as the kids get to interact with their peers and “feel” the chess board with their hands which adds an extra dimension in how they learn to play chess.
Best chess lessons in-Person & Online
Chess Max Academy also offers private tutoring for both kids and adults.
Our price for in-person chess lessons for adults and kids is the same, as it is based mostly on the coaches time and rate, but adults could have some more flexibility in their times and choose time slots which are not prime hours for the kids, which can qualify them for a 20% discount off our base rates. One-one chess lessons in our program start from $90/hour for online chess lessons for beginners and intermediate players and can go up to $250/hour for chess lessons with a grandmaster for advanced players who are able to study well on their own in-between the sessions. The cost for in-person chess lessons for kids and adults start from $150/hour for prime hours, which is from 3-7 pm and can go down to $120/hour for off-peak hours.

All our students, whether they are taking group or private chess lessons, become part of our Academy, which gives them the free use of our mobile chess app, ‘Chess Max Academy’ downloadable from Apple Store or PlayMarket. The app has dozens of free courses available to practice what they learn, while the coaches can assign individual problem sets to their group and private students to practice exactly what they reviews in class between the sessions.
Besides this excellent interactive tool, GM Max Dlugy is always available to direct the students to a path for a faster chess improvement and if you drop us an email with a specific question, would be happy to answer with the most professional chess advice available.
